Through the efforts of members of Sigma State Wisconsin and a bequest from Dr. Lorraine Missling, a former Sigma State Wisconsin president, Sigma State Foundation, Inc. was established in 1999 as a 501 (c) 3 not for profit organization. Its mission is to accept, manage, and distribute money to enhance the quality of education.
Foundation works hand in glove with Sigma State Wisconsin, endorsing and providing financial support for many programs and activities, including Action Grants, the Mary Jo Nettesheim Literary Competition, State Convention speakers, and leadership development. Recently, Foundation initiated a “Give Back” campaign, offering grants to Sigma State chapters and individuals.
A Board of Directors administers the work of Foundation. The Board is composed of thirteen directors: Nine elected directors from the Sigma State Wisconsin membership; the president, first vice president, and immediate past president of the Sigma State Wisconsin Executive Board; and a Sigma State Wisconsin member appointed as treasurer.
Foundation has both endowed and unrestricted funds and invests the money with the hope of providing support for the work of Sigma State Wisconsin in perpetuity. Donations, which are tax-deductible, are welcome from members and non-members alike.
